Trauma Recovery for Exploited Youth (TREY)

TREY offers residential recovery services that are based upon a foundation of professional competence, designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, physical and psychological needs of those recovering from trauma. TREY addresses recovery from sexploitation through a faith based perspective.

SERVICES OFFERED: Housing and Housing Support workers in a long term (up to 3 years) supportive, specialized environment for commercially exploited women 16 years old and up; Access to a doctor dedicated to take care of medical needs (sexual and other physical concerns); Contracts counsellors to address mental health concerns, which can also include trauma counselling depending on the readiness of the resident; Partners with other agencies such as Elizabeth Fry, Lotus Women’s Center, Colchester Sexual Assault Center, Rath Community Center and Mental Health; Residents can attend Nova Scotia Community College to finish their high school or further their education; Work opportunities with different businesses in the area when they are ready and wanting to work; Assists, advocates and provides mentors for residents requiring legal services; Support is offered throughout the process of the Justice System; Opportunities for recreation (fitness, hiking, biking, kayaking, music, creative arts and crafts; Interaction with animals, specifically dogs and horses; Skills development (healthy eating, cooking, cleaning, self care); Emotional support and programming (feeling the anger and hurt, overcoming loneliness and fear, learning to trust, hope and freedom, understanding healthy relationships and boundaries, letting go of shame and guilt).
